Arlington Children’s Center in Columbus, Ohio is home to a beautiful new SplashScapes splash pad. Where once an unsightly old pool had set, they now have a colorful, safe, and kid-friendly outdoor water play area that costs less to operate and maintain.

So how do we do it? How do we transform ugly pools into splash pad fun? For this project we prepared the swimming pool and filled it with concrete sand. Once the pool was filled, we ran all of the piping for the water play features and equipment, poured a layer of gravel and followed it with a layer of colored concrete to match the elevation of the existing pool deck. To finish, we edged the concrete and added a broom finish for a non-slip surface.

To ensure the children would have loads of safe water play fun at daycare, our installation included:

• A chlorinator and UV light sanitizer to kill up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses;
• 10 inground nozzle housings and a total of 30 interchangeable inserts to create an almost unending variety of spray patterns;
• An umbrella water play feature; and
• A second water play feature base so they can easily add one of our fire hydrant, water cannon, or other fun features at a later date.
